Who We Are
African Fund for Community Development (AFCD) is a Kenyan non-governmental organization working to strengthen grassroots organizations and support community-led solutions to poverty.
We work with community-based organizations, women groups, youth groups, farmer groups, savings groups, self-help groups and social enterprises to build stronger systems, mobilize local resources and access opportunities for sustainable development.
How AFCD Supports Communities
AFCD strengthens grassroots organizations through three integrated pathways that help communities learn, connect and grow.
Learn
Through the AFCD Grassroots Development Academy, we equip grassroots organizations with practical skills in governance, financial management, proposal writing, enterprise development and donor readiness.
Connect
Through the AFCD Opportunity Platform, we connect community groups with partners, mentors, volunteers, funding alerts, training opportunities and technical support.
Invest
Through the Community Opportunity Fund, AFCD supports promising grassroots initiatives with small grants, equipment, mentorship and partnership linkages when resources are available.
AFCD Grassroots Development Academy
Practical learning. Stronger organizations. Greater community impact.
The Academy helps grassroots organizations become more credible, accountable, sustainable and ready for partnerships. Our flagship Grassroots Readiness Bootcamp is a six-week online programme delivered through Google Meet. Community Opportunity Fund & Partnership Platform
Many grassroots groups already have strong ideas and committed members, but they lack access to funding, equipment, training, mentorship and partnerships.
AFCD identifies, profiles and strengthens community organizations, then connects them with opportunities that can help them grow.
